Open Question: worked as poll worker election day - is this taxable? New Jersey?

Good day, I worked as a poll worker on election day. The pay is $200 for: 1 1/2 hours training one other day + appx. 16 hours election day = about 18 hours or so.

I'd like to know if this this is considered taxable income? When I get the check it's flat $200, doesn't have a stub saying they deduct taxes or anything. I didn't receive a 1099 from the board of elections either. If it is taxable, can I deduct mileage and gas for having to go to the training sites & polling place too? I always thought being a poll worker was a service you did because of the long hours at work, etc. Thanks to all who answers.

Recently, I have been feeling like I don't have a purpose in life. I know if I die, I will be resurrected but, what is REALLY the point in life for me? I am just a good for nothing teen.

I absolutely hate t-mobile and like anyone else dont want to pay the $200/line cancellation fee (for me it would mean $400 since i have 2 lines). A co-worker told me today that he worked around it by telling them that he was moving to an area where there was no coverage (he gave them a zip code) and then they waived the cancellation fee and payed to transfer his service elsewhere. anyone else have similar experience or any REAL infor on this?

for the illegal aliens that we treat each year?

Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other's borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas.

The U.S. military's Northern Command, however, publicized the agreement with a statement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.

The new agreement has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.

The left-leaning Council of Canadians, which is campaigning against what it calls the increasing integration of the U.S. and Canadian militaries, is raising concerns about the deal.

"It's kind of a trend when it comes to issues of Canada-U.S. relations and contentious issues like military integration. We see that this government is reluctant to disclose information to Canadians that is readily available on American and Mexican websites," said Stuart Trew, a researcher with the Council of Canadians.

Trew said there is potential for the agreement to militarize civilian responses to emergency incidents. He noted that work is also underway for the two nations to put in place a joint plan to protect common infrastructure such as roadways and oil pipelines.

"Are we going to see (U.S.) troops on our soil for minor potential threats to a pipeline or a road?" he asked.

Trew also noted the U.S. military does not allow its soldiers to operate under foreign command so there are questions about who controls American forces if they are requested for service in Canada. "We don't know the answers because the government doesn't want to even announce the plan," he said.

But Canada Command spokesman Commander David Scanlon said it will be up to civilian authorities in both countries on whether military assistance is requested or even used.

He said the agreement is "benign" and simply sets the stage for military-to-military co-operation if the governments approve.

"But there's no agreement to allow troops to come in," he said. "It facilitates planning and co-ordination between the two militaries. The 'allow' piece is entirely up to the two governments."

If U.S. forces were to come into Canada they would be under tactical control of the Canadian Forces but still under the command of the U.S. military, Scanlon added.

News of the deal, and the allegation it was kept secret in Canada, is already making the rounds on left-wing blogs and Internet sites as an example of the dangers of the growing integration between the two militaries.

On right-wing blogs in the U.S. it is being used as evidence of a plan for a "North American union" where foreign troops, not bound by U.S. laws, could be used by the American federal government to override local authorities.

"Co-operative militaries on Home Soil!" notes one website. "The next time your town has a 'national emergency,' don't be surprised if Canadian soldiers respond. And remember - Canadian military aren't bound by posse comitatus."

Posse comitatus is a U.S. law that prohibits the use of federal troops from conducting law enforcement duties on domestic soil unless approved by Congress.

Scanlon said there was no intent to keep the agreement secret on the Canadian side of the border. He noted it will be reported on in the Canadian Forces newspaper next week and that publication will be put on the Internet.

Scanlon said the actual agreement hasn't been released to the public as that requires approval from both nations. That decision has not yet been taken, he added.

Open Question: Comcast on demand says "available now" but the show is nowhere to be found?

For some reason this has really been irking me lately. The commercials that run in the background while browsing are advertising two items as available now. Neither are and I looked EVERYWHERE. Its been 3 days of the commercials taunting me and nothing. I am not going to bother calling as I know the customer service rep will not be able to answer my question and will just schedual an appointment for a tech to come out (I know its not their fault). Anyone else have this issue? I realize its not a big deal and I normally dont sweat the small stuff but grrrrr.
*I want to add that the problem isnt finding on demand itself- its that the shows they are advertising WHILE browsing on demand are in fact not available.

In Texas, the people can vote in the day in the primary and again at night in the caucus. Besides that, Republicans and independents can vote anytime they want to.

That means that Republicans who know McCain is going to be their nominee, they can stuff the ballot boxes with Obama votes, to get Hillary out of the way now, and they know Obama has so many skeletons in his closet - that he will be a breeze to beat in the General.

Also, Florida voters and the Demo party didn't defy the DNC - it was the GOP- controlled legislature that set the primary date, to undermine Democratic voters.

The people who didn't vote, should be given absentee ballots to vote, only if they didn't vote before, and not allowed to change their previous vote - and that problem could be resolved.

But, in Alaska, it takes 22 votes to get a delegate, and in California it takes 9,000 votes to get a delegate.

This whole election process is screwy and luckily, we have super delegates to make some sense of the whole thing. I hope they stick to what they are supposed to do - bring some sanity to this process. gw.

Either way, the only genuine thing I see is her sense that the nomination was supposed to be hers.

And the sad thing is that she could serve America so well by doing what she is really good at -- delving into complex problems and creating detailed solutions. But not as the president, because a president has to be more than a policy wonk. I truly wish she could see that her natural role is as a policy advisor and planner to a president who has the talent to bring people together to help pull the nation out of the dark pit of the Bush years.

The hatred in this article just amplifies the racial division. I watched most of the annual AA Black State of the Union and I was very disappointed in the ugly rhetoric of the AA's all day long. The entire meeting was filled with black speakers that hate white people. There was nothing conciliatory or hopefuabout it.

They all railed about their injustices. They accept no responsibility at all about why some of the black youth go to jail - perhaps they are going to jail because they hurt people.

They aren't even nice to their own people. A friend of mine stopped at a house to look at a car for sale. He told me to stay in the car and lock the doors. It seemed like a nice, quiet neighborhood - at firt. But, as I sat there, I noticed the house had wrought iron on t

I couldn't believe they were nearly all so vile and hateful throughout the day.

When it was time for Hillary to speak, Smiley had everyone leave the state - they didn't even want to be on the stage with her.

Half the audience left.

Just how united is that? I think the AA's were extremely ugly today, and I am very disappointed in the way they behaved today.

Hillary pointed out that she and Congresswoman Lee worked for FOUR YEARS on behalf of the AA's on some process that was good for them.

But the AA's had such disdain for Hillary that they left the room when she arrived. Quite a few stayed, but it really high-lighted how improbable it is that Barack Obama has the ability to unite. Those people are not going to be united - the only thing that will appease them in a very nominal way is if the take control of the White House.

It pretty much offends me, personally, to see them speaking such vile and hateful words. When Rodney King was wrongfully attacked in Los Angeles, I spent two years after that - researching police brutality, and bringing it to the attention of people in the House of Representatives and in the senate.

Then, we didn't have e-mails, we either made phone calls or sent messages via western union. I spent $2,000 in charges for those messages. I pounded on them as I do you now, I would not let up. I finally got a response and a phone call from one of the leaders - they were going to include my research in the Library of Congress, to be used when they worked on police brutality issues.

I put my heart into that research - not only for Rodney King, but everyone that was beaten and abused by the system.

That was in Orange County, California. You have no idea how brave, or how stupid I was, to take on that challenge at that time. The Orange County Sheriff's office had gone bonkers and were ruthless.

Even reporters feared them and were run out of town.

I think African Americans don't appreciate the inroads they have made into justice for them, and if they would work with us rather than rant against us, we could probably make more progress as we go along.

Nobody, even Obama, is going to be able to wave a magic wand and all injustice will disappear - he would have to work on it, just as the rest of us have worked on equality for all - but the ranting and hatred I heard today isn't going to get me up out of bed very early in the morning to worry about it now.

The company has attracted considerable congressional scrutiny and criticism from the Iraqi government and human rights groups for its involvement in several dozen shooting incidents. Federal prosecutors are investigating the Sept. 16 shooting deaths of 17 Iraqi civilians involving several Blackwater security guards. The company has maintained that its guards have always acted appropriately.

In December, the Pentagon and State Department signed an agreement to give the military more control over Blackwater and other private security contractors, spelling out tighter rules, standards and guidelines.

Blackwater previously hired lobbyists Richard Cockrum and Gregory Hahn, according to disclosure forms. However, their forms did not indicate specific lobbying issues.

A phone call and e-mail to Blackwater spokeswoman Anne Tyrrell were not immediately returned.

Since 2006, Blackwater has been represented by C&M Capitolink LLC, a public affairs affiliate of Crowell & Moring LLP. The firm, which has been paid $300,000 from 2006 through the first half of 2007, has lobbied on ways Blackwater could help in border security efforts, among other issues, according to a disclosure report.

Blackwater has received federal contracts worth more than $1 billion, with the bulk of its earnings coming from the State Department, according to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Other military contractors -- such as DynCorp International Inc., which has a $4.6 billion U.S. military translation services contract in Iraq -- have also hired lobbyists to identify federal contracting opportunities.

Open Question: How to lodge a consumer complaint about an car insurance co.?

I am with Esurance car insurance and I want to lodge a complaint somewhere about thier services. It seems that every time I phone for info on a quote or why my bill is constantly increasing every few months I get different answers. The agent I talked to today of course they don't have record of thier agents giving me the wrong info over and over, and they don't want to go back into the phone records.

i'm deciding to switch to a new racquet. i'm looking for something that still has some power, but more control. i currently use the prince ozone seven. i want to use the PRINCE SPEEDPORT PRO WHITE, or even just the normal o3 WHITE, but i'm not sure yet. i will demo, but later on!! please list as many choices as you can. i also DO NOT like any racquets under 100 sq. inches, or oversize racquets [106 sq. inches+].
my kind of style i'd say..is defensive baseliner. my forehand is consistent, but not my most greatest shot; i love to take rips at my 2 handed backhand [i am a righty]. my serves are consistent, but i'm not concerned with them now. my greatest asset to my game..i'd say is my service return.

Hello.

I have an EnV on the verizon service and i'm getting sick of it. I don't like having to rotate and flip open to use most of the features, i'd rather be able to one-handedly access everything (in the form of candybar, slider, or flip -- preferably the first or second type)

I want a fresh phone that can do as much as the enV, but just in a different form factor. If you post, please say why you chose that phone and why you think i'd like it more than the enV.
